The Art of Reading the Crowd: A Guide for Club DJs

Technical skills are useless if you can't keep the dancefloor moving. Learn the psychological secrets of reading a crowd.

You can have the most expensive DJ gear and the most technically perfect transitions, but if you play the wrong song at the wrong time, the dancefloor will empty.

Watch the Body Language

Don't just look at the people jumping in the front row. Look at the edges of the dancefloor and the people sitting at tables. Are they tapping their feet? Nodding their heads? If the energy is dipping, it's time to change the vibe.

The 3-Song Rule

Never drastically change genres without a transition plan. Give a genre or tempo at least 3 songs to build momentum. If it doesn't work after 3 songs, gracefully mix out into a certified banger.
